For more on the Open Komodo Project, ActiveState CTO & python guy David Ascher's post Open Komodo Thoughts and Komodo Dev Team LeadShane Caraveo 's interview with Internetnews.com add important clarifications as well as background on why ActiveState's motivated to open source Komodo.

In the meantime, thanks for the strong support! A few names to drop, as the fine folks in the Mozilla community put in their good words: Open Tools for a Better Web from Mitchell Baker, Mozilla CEO, and  ActiveState's Open Komodo Project from Mark Finkle, Platform Evangelist at Mozilla Corporation. And thanks for the encouragement from Mozilla Links, who added this:

This is without a doubt great news for web developers and the open
source software community as they can now count with a new powerful
tool to work with.

In the particular case of Mozilla, as a platform, this opens the
possibility for more and more powerful extensions and applications.
Komodo Edit already includes a Firefox Extension Wizard which quickly
gathers information required by extensions and creates the necessary
layout for the XPI files. This could be extended for other
Mozilla-based products including Miro and Songbird delivering a true
Mozilla development environment as proposed by the Mozpad project which recently started meetings to explore ways to unleash Mozilla’s potential as a platform.

It's gratifying to see our excitement is shared! I'll take a first stab at answering any FAQs next Monday, so send me your questions.
