Q: I'm confused. What's free from ActiveState and what's open source?
A: ActiveState currently offers four free products: ActivePerl, ActiveTcl, ActivePython, and Komodo Edit. With the Open Komodo Project, we are going to create a fifth free product, codenamed Snapdragon. Snapdragon will be both free and open source, and developed with the open source community. In early November, we will release the open source Open Komodo code base, the platform from which the community can build new, free, open source tools; our efforts will be focussed on Snapdragon.

I hope that clarifies what we mean by free and what we're proposing as open source.

Got questions? Send them my way. Or maybe Shane Caraveo, Komodo Dev Team Lead, will answer them in his talk at DrupalCon in Barcelona, or you could chat with him at JAOO in Denmark, or maybe over a sangria on the beach in southern Spain?
