Connecting to Database Services in Stackato

I was going to write a fairly straightforward post about Stackato's 'dbshell' command, demonstrating how you can use it to access the databases provisioned by Stackato. However, a few days ago Cloud Foundry blogged about Caldecott, demonstrating how to connect to database services on cloudfoundry.com, so the scope of this article has changed a bit.

Data. It's everywhere. We leave a trail of it everywhere we go, both on the web, and in real life, and these days there aren't many applications that don't use a database, even if it's just a simple table to track high scores in a game. And while the languages Komodo supports are great for interacting with databases, if you wanted to view your database tables you needed to use a tool outside Komodo.

We (ActiveState) released Komodo 6.0 beta 2 yesterday and we want your feedback, bugs and IDE dreams. While we've made nightlies available since almost the first builds of Komodo 6, we feel that Komodo 6 is getting stable enough that it is time to start talking about it more to get a wider audience trying it and giving us feedback on what we've done so far.
