
Technical Support Engineer
ActiveState is offering a unique opportunity to be a part of our growing, vibrant company. We’re looking for a Technical Support Engineer to join us for a full-time position in our Vancouver office.
As part of the Support group, you will bring impressive skills in testing and troubleshooting open source technology in a cross-platform environment.
You should have at least 1 year of experience in a support, testing or related position, and should already have working knowledge of Java and dynamic language technologies such as Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Tcl. You thrive in a fun and fast paced environment and have great communication skills. You will bring a hunger for problem-solving and desire to understand and play with newer, cutting-edge technologies and software methodologies.

Responsibilities:
- Technical support and testing
- Quality assurance testing for ActiveState's multi-language platform as a service environment and tools
- Online support and community involvement
- Administration of dev and test systems
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving software, with a willingness to facilitate open and effective communication with internal and external teams
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum one year of experience working in software QA, support or related environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Technical knowledge of Linux, Mac OS X and Windows environments
- Knowledge of Java, Perl, Python, Tcl and/or Ruby
- Experience with administering Linux or unix systems
- Flexibility and adaptability for working in an ever-changing, dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities and goals
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with ticket tracking systems and QA processes
- Experience with virtualization software (e.g. VMware, VirtualBox)
- Experience working on open source projects
- Intermediate scripting/dynamic language skills
- Past or current use of ActiveState products
- Network administration experience
Work Environment:
We’re on the top floor of the United Kingdom building in downtown Vancouver. We have an amazing view of the water and north shore mountains and an open concept office, complete with a stocked kitchen, a beer fridge and a playroom!
