ActiveState is growing our Technology Evangelist team. We're looking for someone with expertise in developer, devops, and platform technologies for Stackato, our cloud platform for creating a private Platform as a Service ("PaaS"). You should have a passion for one or more cloud technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Docker, OpenStack, Amazon EC2, Google Cloud, Apache Mesos, Logstash, CoreOS, or etcd and building 12 factor apps.

This role reports to the VP of Product Management & Marketing and will help drive the adoption strategy, messaging, positioning, packaging and evangelism of ActiveState's Stackato. The successful candidate must have an unrelenting passion and desire to see Stackato succeed with developers, devops, and IT and can work remotely (preferably on the East or West Coast) or from our offices in Vancouver, BC.

Responsibilities:

The Technology Evangelist will drive the following strategic efforts for Stackato:

  • Act as the public face of our Stackato product offering
  • Build relationships across various technical audiences who use languages such as Java, Ruby, Node, Python, Perl, PHP in order to develop a targeted messaging strategy for a successful adoption of Stackato
  • Develop customer-facing materials, presentations, and content for corporate and community websites
  • Meet with and form relationships with our customers and prospects
  • Evangelize how our customers have successfully deployed Stackato to solve real business challenges
  • Create the core content and tools needed to support various distribution channels (direct and indirect) to reach technical audiences with a consistent and relevant message
  • Track and report on competitive activities and market developments
  • Evangelize company and product strengths with technical communities and industry press thru demos, conferences, webinars, mailing lists and forums.
  • Travel up to 50% to meet the objectives of this role (depending on your location)

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of at least one dynamic language or Java
  • Experience with application platform software
  • Hands on experience as a maintainer and contributor to open source projects
  • Track record of driving technical products to technical audiences
  • Experience developing communities for product lines at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and public speaking
  • Self-starter, high-energy, with ability to execute on business objectives
  • Strong teamwork and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to multi-task, change priorities rapidly, and work under pressure
  • Must be able to travel unrestricted in North America

Nice to Have Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with technical focused social media campaigns (blogs, Twitter, meetups) is a plus
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Product Management or Product Marketing background

Work Environment:

We’re on the top floor of the United Kingdom building in downtown Vancouver.  We have an amazing view of the water and north shore mountains and an open concept office, complete with a stocked kitchen, a beer fridge and a playroom!
