Bart Copeland
President & CEO
Bart Copeland brings more than twenty years of leadership, management, finance, and business experience to his position as CEO and President of ActiveState. He is passionate about creating and building the infrastructure and environment at ActiveState that allows our bright people (aka "Activators") to have a ton of fun while constantly creating and innovating to solve complex problems, produce cool and useful applications that provide real benefits to our customers, through technology solutions that "just work."
In addition to his activities at ActiveState, Bart is active as an angel investor and serves as a director of Credo Interactive, a mentor to the BC Advantage Funds, and is active in promoting and helping Science World British Columbia, a self-supporting non-profit organization that stimulates positive attitudes towards science and technology through a fun interactive environment. He holds an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia.
Jeff Hobbs
Director, Engineering
Jeff is Director of Engineering, overseeing development of all ActiveState products—from language distributions to development tools and web-based solutions.
Though he’s responsible for leading and fostering our talented development team, Jeff is a coder at heart and dynamic languages are his passion. He’s been a member of the Tcl Core Team for more than a decade and is the primary author of many popular Tcl modules, as well as a contributing author for Perl and Python extensions. Jeff is a Tcl/Tk core maintainer and co-author of “Practical Programming in Tcl and Tk” and regularly publishes papers on the topic. Jeff works closely with ActiveState customers including Cisco, Boeing, Synopsys, NASA and Intel to deliver the best dynamic languages solutions for their development projects.
Before joining ActiveState, Jeff was the Tcl Ambassador at Scriptics and a software engineer at Siemens. He has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Oregon.
Diane Mueller
Director, Enterprise Product Management
Diane Mueller is Director, Enterprise Product Management at ActiveState. She has been designing and implementing products and applications embedded into mission-critical financial and accounting systems at Fortune 500 corporations for over 20 years. Diane has been actively involved in development efforts of XBRL Open Standard for the past 11 years. She serves on both the XBRL International Steering Committee and the Best Practices Board, chairing the software interoperability working group and the XBRL Rendering Technical Working Group, as well as an active member of the RIXML.org working group.
In addition, she is the host and editor of XBRLSpy.com and a half dozen other drupal-based sites that allow her to pontificate on her interests ranging from geocaching, her pugs, and the Pacific Northwest she calls home.
Angie Hirata
Director, Sales & Marketing
Angie Hirata brings more than twelve years of experience in marketing, PR, sales and business development to her position as head of sales & marketing at ActiveState. Prior to joining ActiveState, Angie's successful career included start-ups and large organizations including Maximizer Software, JustSystems, Eyeball Networks, Seagate Software and SEI Industries. Angie holds a B.Comm. in Marketing and MIS from the University of British Columbia.
Maria Chu
Director, Finance, HR & Admin
Maria has over 13 years of experience in senior financial management roles surrounding all financial reporting aspects, analysis, planning, systems implementation, internal controls, cash management and operational mandates in diverse companies from IT, general aviation, real estate property development and manufacturing in both unionized and privately held companies.
Prior to joining ActiveState, Maria was the Controller for: PowerWallz, AWT Tech, who developed the latest aircraft parts and wing technology for the de Havilland Beavers, WWP, a unionized Saskatchewan based Agricultural plant and the Delta Land/Coal Harbour Properties, a well-known multi-million dollar property developer, who recently sold The Georgia Hotel and developed the award winning "Calisto and Carina" at Coal Harbour. Maria holds her B.Sc. in Accounting and recently obtained her CMA designation.
Strategic Advisors
David Ascher
Strategic Advisor
David Ascher is the CEO of Mozilla Messaging and a strategic advisor to ActiveState. As such, David works closely with the ActiveState management team to provide input on strategic opportunities for the company. An ActiveState employee from 2000 to 2007, he was the original team lead for Komodo, managing director and chief technologist of the ActiveState unit during its ownership by Sophos, and most recently CTO and VP Engineering.
Shane Caraveo
Strategic Advisor
Shane works closely with the ActiveState team to provide feedback on new opportunities for the company. An ActiveState employee from 2001 to 2010, Shane held various positions including Komodo Team Lead, where he led the product bringing in web development features and providing an open source editor to our users. He was later a Lead Developer and Product Manager of Developer Services.
In the past years, Shane has made major contributions to PHP, and is now an avid Python developer. Currently, he works on development projects with Mozilla Messaging.
