Why do I need an ActiveState account?

Your ActiveState account enables you to easily:

  • Download purchased software and licenses.
  • View your product order history.
  • Manage your billing and shipping information.
  • Assign product licenses and subscriptions.
  • View completed orders.
What happens to the information I give you?

Your information is protected under the terms of our Privacy Policy. During a transaction, your credit card information is encrypted for delivery to the card processing company. ActiveState does not store your credit card information; instead we use a PCI-DSS compliant third party who holds customer billing information with the utmost security.

What if I forget my password?

Go to My Account and click "Reset my password". We'll sent a new password to the email address you provide.

What if My Account doesn't list all of my products?

If your previously purchased ActiveState software that doesn't appear in My Account, this means that it was purchased on your behalf, or you used a different email address at the time of purchase.

How can I view my order history?

To view your order history, go to My Account and select Order History.

Can I get backup media for my software download?

Unfortunately we no longer offer ActiveDVD (backup DVD) as an addition to your purchase; however, you may download all of your purchased products via My Account at any time.

What are the requirements for a purchase order (PO)?

We do not offer credit terms for orders under $750 US. Please order online or by phone with your credit card.

To submit a corporate purchase order for a minimum $750 purchase:

  • Your organization may be asked to fill out a credit application to qualify for net terms > $750 US.
  • All orders must include the names & email addresses of the purchasers & end users.

Renewals & Upgrades

  • Please include the serial numbers of the licenses you wish to renew/upgrade on your order or processing will be delayed (until we receive this information from you).
  • If you need help in finding your serial number, please contact customer service.
How do I buy software for someone else?
  • Go to the ActiveState Store.
  • Select the software you would like to purchase and click "Add to Cart".
  • Complete the online purchase process.
  • After purchasing, go to My Account.
  • Select the serial number you want to transfer.
  • Click "Re-assign"; enter the name and email address of the new user and click "Assign".
  • Software and license download instructions will be emailed immediately to the address you provide.
What are my purchasing options?

You can buy online using a credit card, place your order by phone, or fax/email a corporate purchase order.

Credit/net terms are only available for orders over $750 (subject to credit approval). Pre-payment via credit card, check or wire transfer is required.

Does ActiveState offer volume discounts?

How do I purchase ActiveState software?

How long is my current quote/site pricing good for?

Product availability and pricing are subject to change without notification. The configurations and pricing noted in quotes are generally valid for up to 30 days and are specifically intended for purchase by the entity indicated, for the term specified. Quotes, complete with any adjustments that reflect promotional or special pricing discounts, are valid only for the duration of the promotion or special pricing event and or for the term specified. Current online pricing at time of order placement takes precedence over other offers, unless otherwise specified.

How can I get a copy of my receipt?

To get copy of your receipt:

  • Go to My Account and choose Order History on the left hand side.
  • Select the order you'd like to view and print it out.

How do I contact Technical Support?

ActiveState provides Komodo IDE, Perl Dev Kit and Tcl Dev Kit customers with basic installation support. For Pro Studio customers, please note that installation support is covered for Komodo IDE, Perl Dev Kit and Tcl Dev Kit, but does not include support for ActivePerl/ActiveTcl language distributions. For all other support issues, please visit our Community site, which hosts our technical product FAQs and forums, to see if your question is already answered.

What is ActiveState's return policy?

We offer free, 21-day trial versions of all development tools, and free Community Editions of ActivePerl, ActivePython, and ActiveTcl as trials of Business and Enterprise Editions; therefore, we do not accept returns on products purchased directly from ActiveState, or purchased through an ActiveState Authorized Reseller.

You may cancel Upgrades & Support plan subscriptions at any time to avoid future charges. No full or partial refunds available for annual subscriptions that have already been charged to your card. You may cancel your subscription via My Account or by calling 1.866.631.4581 or 778.786.1103.

Licensing

Which ActiveState software requires purchasing of a license?

Development tools: Komodo IDE, Komodo Edit, Perl Dev Kit, Tcl Dev Kit, ActivePerl Pro Studio and ActiveTcl Pro Studio. Language distributions and Komodo Edit can be downloaded for free and do not require a license for internal or personal commercial or non-commercial use. Development tools other than Komodo Edit require you to register and install a license to activate the software. 21-day trial licenses are available for all paid products.

Where can I find the License Agreement for my software?

A copy of the license agreement is installed with the software in the installation directory and/or the User Guide. License agreements are also available online at:

How do I install my license?

To install your license, download and run the file.
On Windows, double-click the file in Windows Explorer.
On Unix platforms, you must first make the file executable.
On Mac OS X, unzip the zip file and double-click the 'ActiveState License Installer'.

I installed my license but my software can't find a valid license.

Sometimes a purchased license will not successfully overwrite previous trial licenses. When this happens, the license installer will appear to install successfully, but the software will complain that it cannot find a valid license.

If you have only one ActiveState product installed on your system (excepting language distributions), you can manually delete the license file and re-run the installer. The license file has an ".lic" extension, and is located in "\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ActiveState".

If you are running Windows NT, check the license location. If it is installed at "\winnt\profiles\USER\ApplicationData\ActiveState.lic", delete the license and install to "\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ActiveState".

If you have multiple ActiveState products installed on your system, do not delete the license file unless you are prepared to re-run the license installer for all ActiveState products. If you need further assistance, please contact technical support.

What is the difference between an update and an upgrade?

Updates are minor releases (also known as point releases) that include enhancements and bug fixes. These releases are indicated by a "small" version number change. For example, Komodo IDE 5.1 to Komodo IDE 5.2 is an update.

Upgrades are major releases that include significant new functionality. These releases are indicated by a "large" version number change. For example, Perl Dev Kit 7 to Perl Dev Kit 8 is an upgrade.

Does my current license include upgrades and updates?

If you have an ActivePerl Pro Studio or ActiveTcl Pro Studio subscription, you are entitled to upgrades, ie. major releases during the course of your subscription.

If you have Komodo IDE, Perl Dev Kit or Tcl Dev Kit, you are entitled to major releases if you also have an active Upgrades & Support subscription. If you do not have an active Upgrades & Support subscription, you are only entitled to minor releases for the version that you initially purchased. For example, if you purchased Komodo IDE 7.0, you are entitled to every 7.x release.

Upgrades & Support subscriptions can only be added to a current version license within one year of your initial license purchase.

Do I need to purchase separate licenses for each platform or computer that I use?

ActivePerl, ActivePython, and ActiveTcl Business Editions licenses are per language, per version, per server. For instance, if you need ActivePerl 5.10 and 5.18 (both considered legacy) and intend to use the software on 3 servers, this constitutes six instances; 5.10 on servers 1, 2, 3, and 5.18 on servers 1, 2, 3.

For developer tools Komodo IDE, Perl Dev Kit, and Tcl Dev Kit, a single license covers you across all supported platforms--so go ahead and install your software on your home and work machines, your laptop... As long as you are the only one using the software.

How do I transfer a license to someone else?

Licenses are assigned to individuals for their personal use only, on any system they operate. Use of the software by another individual requires the purchase of an additional license.

If you wish to permanently transfer ownership of the license, you must then discontinue any and all use of the original license. To permanently transfer a license:

  • Go to My Account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the page.
  • Click on the serial number you want to transfer.
  • Click "Re-assign", enter the name and email address of the new user and click "Assign".
  • Software and license download instructions will be emailed to the address you provide.
How can I view the serial number(s) for my purchased software?

To view the serial numbers for your purchased software:

  • Go to My Account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the page.
  • Under "ActiveState Product Licenses", you'll see your products and their associated serial numbers. Our serial numbers are 10-character alphanumeric strings starting with S (e.g. S1234F5678).

Can I try ActiveState software before purchasing?

We offer 21-day, fully-functional trial licenses for all our software products.

How do I purchase my software during my trial?

How do I download purchased software at a later time?

To download and install software immediately after purchasing:

  • After purchasing, go to My Account.
  • Click the serial number of the product you want to download.
  • Download and run the license installer for your platform.
  • Download and run the product installer(s) for your platform.
How do I download another copy of my license?

To download another copy of your license for purchased software:

  • Go to My Account. If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions on the Sign In page.
  • Click the serial number of the product.
  • Download the license installer for your platform.

Pro Studio Subscriptions

What are Developer Bundles/Pro Studio subscriptions?

ActivePerl Pro Studio and ActiveTcl Pro Studio are annual, easy-to-budget subscription bundles that include software licenses, upgrades and Safari Books Online.

How do I get my Pro Studio subscription license?
  • Go to My Account and click the serial number of the license in the list.
  • Download the license installer for your platform.
How do I access my Safari Books Online account?

You can only access Safari Books Online (as part of your Pro Studio subscription) through My Account.

  • Go to My Account and click the serial number of the subscription in the list.
  • Near the top of the page under the administrator details (and above the license installers), click the link to Safari bookshelf.
How do I know when my subscription is up for renewal?

The purchaser, administrator and end user of a license are notified by email about an upcoming renewal if purchased via Purchase Order. However, if you've purchased Pro Studio from ActiveState directly, your subscription will be automatically renewed on the anniversary date of purchase.

You can also see the expiry date for Pro Studio subscriptions when you sign in to My Account.

  • To renew a subscription purchased via PO or through a reseller you may click "Set Subscription to Automatically Renew" beside the serial number you wish to renew. Your subscription will switch to automatically renewing. Clicking that option will charge you the annual renewal rate of $222 immediately; however, you are not penalized for switching before your subscription expires, since the expiration date for your serial date will become (date of subscription purchase + 365 days).
  • If you have an older license and were not offered the opportunity to set automatically recurring payments when you purchased (and purchased within the past 365 days), you will see the option to "Add Upgrades and Support Subscription" beside your serial number in My Account. Clicking that option will charge you the annual renewal rate of $222 immediately; however, you are not penalized for switching before your subscription expires, since the expiration date for your serial date will become (date of subscription purchase + 365 days).
  • If you cannot find or renew your license, please contact us for assistance.
  • Note that renewals are $222 per license. To renew for multiple years at once, please contact customer service.
Is it possible to renew an expired subscription?

Try logging into My Account and searching by your license number. If renewal options are available, there will be an "upgrade", "add upgrades and support", "switch to automatic renewal" or "add upgrades and support plan" button beside your serial number. You may then proceed through the store using one of those options. If you're unsure which option applies to you or have any questions, please contact us for information about renewing expired development tool licenses. Please provide us with the serial number(s) of the license(s) you wish to renew when making contact.

Can I access my Safari Books Online account using an iPad or Android app?

With the iPad or Android device, you must have the 'Safari to go' app installed. Then
navigate to your My Account page:

and click the link under your Pro Studio Licence tab to go to the Safari Books
online site.

From the Safari Books online site, there is a large red button to launch the
"Safari to go' app. Doing it in this order will hand off the credentials correctly.

This does work with the native iPad Safari internet browser, and the native
Android internet browser, but we cannot guarantee that it is supported with add-on browsers.
