ActiveState Unveils PerlASPX 1.0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – February 11, 2003 – ActiveState, the leader in applied open source, today announced the release of PerlASPX 1.0. ActiveState PerlASPX enables professional Perl programmers to use Perl for dynamic content generation on Microsoft ASP.NET Web servers. Built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, PerlASPX adds Perl to the list of supported languages for ASP.NET enabled Web servers. PerlASPX leverages the power of ActiveState PerlNET to deliver a flexible option for programmers who prefer Perl for its powerful text processing capabilities, or have legacy Perl code. PerlASPX also enables programmers to create ASP.NET-hosted XML Web services in Perl. Active Server Pages (ASP) has long been the foundation for creating rich and dynamic Web sites using server-side scripting. Microsoft ASP.NET enables developers to access any of the programmatic interfaces exposed by the .NET Framework, and to construct server-side code using any of the languages that are compatible with the Framework.

"ActiveState's extensive experience in bringing Perl to the Microsoft platform makes them especially qualified for the task of porting Perl to ASP.NET," said John Montgomery, director for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "PerlASPX is an excellent combination of Perl's text processing power with the popularity of ASP's server-side scripting environment for the creation of interactive Web pages and building powerful .NET Framework applications for the Web."

Key Benefits:

  • Use Perl for dynamic content on Microsoft ASP.NET Web servers
  • Easily create XML Web services using Perl
  • Keep existing investment in Perl code on ASP.NET

"I am excited that I can use Perl while taking advantage of all the features of the .NET Framework, such as code behind, page compiling and page caching," said Matthew Schaffner, Traders' Library. "PerlASPX is ideally designed for developers and organizations that wish to incorporate Perl technology within their ASP.NET hosted web pages," said Matt Herdon, Director of Product Management, Programming Tools, ActiveState. "PerlASPX adds further depth to ActiveState's offering for .NET Framework development, and will be updated for the upcoming Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 release with our other related products Visual Perl, Visual Python, Visual XSLT, and Perl Dev Kit."

PerlASPX is priced at $395/server, available immediately. For a limited time, ActiveState is offering a launch special of $345/server, and will also include a free copy of "Programming in the .NET Environment" with every PerlASPX order.
