The Platform for the Agile Enterprise

The Platform for the Agile Enterprise

Enterprises gain a competitive advantage when they are able to quickly create, deploy, and efficiently manage software solutions that immediately create business value, but they face many challenges that prevent them from doing so.

Stackato allows agile enterprises to develop and deploy software solutions faster than ever before and manage them more effectively. Stackato provides development teams with built-in languages, frameworks and services on one single cloud application platform, while providing enterprise-level security and world-class support.

  • Reduce the amount of time spent on IT configuration
  • Get applications to market faster
  • Use any language, framework, stack, or data service
  • Fast and reliable environment for all your innovative ideas
  • Tighter security, better compliance, and more control over secure, sensitive data

Leveraging the best of open source, Stackato is built on Cloud Foundry PaaS and utilizes Docker for its Linux Containers (LXC).

Platform Overview

Stackato is a secure, stable, and commercially supported Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that is built with and on top of various open source components such as Cloud Foundry and Docker.

Stackato runs on top of your cloud infrastructure, and is the middleware from which your applications are launched.

Developers simply upload their application source files to Stackato via IDE or command-line. Stackato automatically configures the required language runtimes, web frameworks, and data and messaging services.

Developers can replicate the same Stackato environments across each phase of development, ie. testing, staging, and production, allowing for continuous deployments without manual processes.

Administrators can monitor and configure settings, such as user roles, application components, scaling, and memory usage, through the Stackato web interface or command line.

Enabling the Future of Applications: The Stackato Vision

The pace of change in our economy is accelerating remorselessly. Is your company keeping up? To become a Third Platform company you need technology that enables greater business agility, technical innovation and lets you deploy applications on any infrastructure. Bernard Golden discusses how Stackato enables the future of applications so your company won't be left behind. Watch the video to learn more.

Key Features

Secure, Scalable Architecture

Stackato components can be configured with multiple instances for high availability or as load balancers to remove potential bottlenecks and improve performance and reliability. Application containers can automatically scale to meet demand.

Secure, Multi-Tenant Containers

All application instances are enveloped in their own secure virtual container (Docker LXC containers + AppArmor) with their own web server and runtime. This allows applications to be fully isolated from each other.

Web Management Console

The Stackato web console provides an intuitive visual interface to quickly and easily administer, configure, and monitor just about everything to do with Stackato, including from a mobile web browser.

Enterprise Grade User Management

Stackato offers optional support for external user authentication via its AOK component. AOK is designed to be extensible and currently supports authentication via LDAP, Active Directory, or Google Apps for Business.

Customizable App Store

Stackato includes a pre-populated App Store that includes many popular open source projects written in a variety of languages and frameworks. Deploy them with a single click, browse the source, or customize to your needs.

Centralized Cluster Administration

For use at scale, Stackato can be clustered into multiple nodes that are assigned specific roles. Additional nodes can be be added and roles can be viewed or configured from the Stackato Client CLI or directly from the web management console.

Consolidated Logging

Logyard runs on large scale clusters with no single point of failure, consolidating system logs and application logs from all instances into streams which can be viewed in the Stackato CLI, web console, or third-party products like Splunk or Loggly.

Usage & Billing API

Stackato's usage API allows you to monitor memory resource usage by user, organization, or space. This data can be viewed in the web console or fed into billing APIs letting you accurately allocate costs.

What Our Users are Saying

"We were looking for a way to scale out our environments without having to add more people...It made sense for us to go with Stackato because it is based on Cloud Foundry...ActiveState has productized that in a way that we are happy with. The support is definitely a big factor."

"Without a PaaS, it would take us at least a month to develop the number of updates that we currently deploy in one week. With Stackato, we usually deploy tens of applications at a time and deploy updates every day...Stackato makes it really easy to manage a large amount of software."

"By implementing Stackato for our Cloud Foundry deployments, the team is able to focus on other critical infrastructure and application development priorities. Stackato has proven to be stable and the support we’ve received from the ActiveState team has been terrific."
