Meet Our Team

Bart Copeland

President and CEO. 
Bart Copeland is our CEO and president. He's passionate about ensuring that everyone at ActiveState has a lot of fun while solving complex problems with applications that provide real benefit to our customers. He holds an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia.

Maria Chu

VP, Finance, HR & Admin.
Maria has almost 20 years of diverse senior financial management roles (including 10 with ActiveState) and an expert generalist overseeing various aspects of business operations including legal, HR, strategic matters such as private placements, offering memorandum, flow-through limited partnerships and board/shareholder matters. She has intimate knowledge of financial processes including financial reporting and analysis of operating results, planning, internal controls, cash management and other operational mandates. She has worked in diverse companies from IT, general aviation, real estate property development and manufacturing.

Tom Radcliffe

Director of Engineering.
Tom Radcliffe has over 20 years experience in software development and management in both academia and industry. He is a professional engineer (PEO and APEGBC) and holds a PhD in physics from Queen's University at Kingston. Tom brings a passion for quantitative, data-driven processes to ActiveState. He is deeply committed to the ideas of Bayesian probability theory, and assigns a high Bayesian plausibility to the idea that putting the best software tools in the hands of the most creative and capable people will make the world a better place.

Sheila Louis

Director of Marketing & SMB Sales.
Sheila Louis brings over 15 years of experience in the software technology industry to ActiveState, including almost five in varied roles within ActiveState. She's just as comfortable discussing technology with developers as she is discussing business drivers with management, and her focus is on marketing, technology, and customer service to bring ActiveState's developer tools and languages to the next level. Her education includes an accounting diploma from Thompson Rivers University, and software systems development certification from BCIT.

Jeff Rouse

Director of Product Management. 
Jeff is passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship, and building great products. With over 20 years’ of experience in the IT industry, from startups to publicly traded technology firms, Jeff has led development teams and business operations, created products, and taken them to market. Jeff earned his B.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Calgary where he ignited his long-standing interest in software technology. At ActiveState, Jeff oversees product strategy and innovation across all product lines.

Jennifer Lawler

Senior Enterprise & OEM Account Executive.
Jennifer brings 16 years of professional experience in the open source IT market to ActiveState, where she holds the title of Senior Account Executive. Her primary areas of focus include evangelizing ActiveState technologies to the masses, driving new sales, managing as well as growing existing Enterprise and OEM customer accounts related to ActiveState’s dynamic language distributions (ActivePerl, ActivePython and ActiveTcl). Jennifer is keenly adept at managing relationships with multiple technology champions inside development, IT, procurement and legal teams. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees (English Literature and Scandinavian Studies) from Concordia College in MN.
