MSC Chooses ActiveState’s Platform and Python Solution to Extend Legacy Applications, Increase Speed and Manage Risk

ActiveState Satisfies Needs of DevOps, Engineering and Sales Teams

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – May 21, 2019 – Today ActiveState announced that MSC Software, an engineering simulation firm, chose the ActiveState Platform and its Python solution, ActivePython, to extend legacy applications, increase the speed of implementing updated Python language distributions and manage risk across MSC’s broad product suite.

MSC can download ActivePython as well as automatically build, certify and resolve Python and other supported open source languages on the ActiveState Platform, on-demand and built to spec.

MSC gains a uniform and consistent approach to building, certifying and resolving Python across its product suite. Further, it chose ActiveState for a number of key reasons that satisfied its engineering, DevOps and sales teams:

  • Fast turnaround and managed risk by automating the updating of Python versions with up-to-date libraries.
  • Visibility and control with a bill of materials (BOM) that identifies all packages and libraries running per Python application.
  • Flexibility to quickly provide its customers with new functionalities.

Bart Copeland, President and CEO, ActiveState, said: “Open source languages drive innovation, but building languages can drive software development inefficiency. Companies can now gain better performance, decrease the attack surface area and obtain visibility into what’s running in their applications by automatically building, certifying and resolving open source languages on the ActiveState Platform.”

Doug Neill, Senior Vice President for Product Development at MSC Software, said: “We chose ActiveState because it was the only firm that could provide on-demand, customized versions of the Python programming language. Along with BOM management, ActiveState satisfied the internal needs of both engineering and DevOps while also expediting responsiveness to sales requests. We gain speed, flexibility and engineering time, plus better manage the risk of products running Python with a uniform and consistent approach.”
