Build, certify and resolve open source language distributions tailored to your needs – specific languages, versions, packages and platforms. Learn more on the ActiveState Platform page.
Once you’ve created your open source language distribution on our Platform, or you use a managed distribution created and maintained by ActiveState, you can deploy it for use as required. Depending on the features used and how the open source language distributions are deployed, the following licensing applies.

2For a limited time, Community Tier users will be allowed to use Komodo for free but subject to the Komodo License agreement referenced on the other tiers.
ActiveState open source language distributions can be packaged for a growing list of platforms and operating systems, including:
- Windows, Mac and most major Linux vendors
- Big iron servers, including AIX, HP-UX and Solaris
ActiveState open source language distributions are typically licensed per instance. If you’re running multiple instances in the cloud or on an ESXi server where you can scale out instances on demand, ask about volume pricing options that entitle you to run multiple instances, as required.
Indemnification/Legal Risk Reduction
Mixing and matching open source licenses in a single application can result in conflicts that expose you to legal liability. ActiveState’s single license overrides all individual package/module licenses, giving you peace of mind.
“Builds Made to Order”
If you require packages or platforms (such as AWS or Docker) not currently supported by the ActiveState Platform, or if you’d prefer ActiveState to create a custom build, an open source language distribution specific to your needs, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
