ActiveState Joins OpenStack Ecosystem

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – October 7, 2011 – ActiveState®, the dynamic language experts offering solutions for Perl, Python, Tcl and other web languages, today announced its continued commitment to promote the development of Stackato™, its cloud platform for creating a private PaaS, as an infrastructure-agnostic platform by joining the OpenStack™ ecosystem. ActiveState joins OpenStack™ founding member, Rackspace® Hosting, and over 100 other companies to foster the adoption of OpenStack as the industry standard open source cloud operating system.

“OpenStack’s move to a more collaborative governance model shows the strength of the community and is one of the reasons ActiveState is joining the OpenStack project today,” Bart Copeland, President & CEO at ActiveState. “Stackato and OpenStack are both examples where choice and openness give real power and flexibility to the customer. Joining the OpenStack ecosystem is a clear way to signal that we will continue to work with the widest array of infrastructure platforms to provide the options our users are demanding. As with the history of ActiveState, we look forward to joining and contributing to the community.”

“We are pleased to welcome ActiveState and Stackato to the OpenStack community. It’s great to see ActiveState bring private PaaS to OpenStack with Stackato, as we believe the infrastructure and application platform layer together are a powerful combination,” said Mark Collier, VP of Marketing & Business Development at Rackspace.

Stackato is currently in Beta open to developers and cloud administrators to try as a micro cloud (VM) or in a hosted sandbox.
