ActiveState Named a Gartner Research “Cool Vendor in PaaS”

VANCOUVER, British Columbia– April 17, 2013 – ActiveState®, whose software enables developers and enterprises to innovate from code to cloud, today announced it has been named a Gartner Research “Cool Vendor in PaaS” for 2013. In its “Cool Vendors in PaaS, 2013” report released yesterday, the global research firm profiles ActiveState and its flagship cloud middleware technology Stackato®, the private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) for the agile enterprise.

“It’s great to be recognized as a cool vendor in PaaS,” says ActiveState CEO Bart Copeland. “This acknowledgement validates our approach, and highlights just some of Stackato’s innovative features. But what’s really cool is how enterprise customers like ExactTarget, Mozilla, and HP use Stackato to transform cloud deployment to get products to market faster, manage applications more securely, and save money in the process.”

In the report, Gartner analyst Ian Finley describes Stackato as a “powerful private PaaS in a box,” and highlights Stackato’s auto-scaling, service-provisioning APIs, and management console. Finley notes Stackato’s hybrid-cloud and polyglot capabilities, commenting that enterprises should consider Stackato if their PaaS must “leverage both internal and external cloud resources (hybrid cloud) and support multiple language environments.”

“From the beginning, we architected Stackato to be flexible and extensible,” adds ActiveState Director of Product Management Brent Smithurst. “Our recent 2.10 release exemplifies that with its Oracle DB add-on and support for development frameworks like Java, Python, Perl, PHP, and node.js. That makes it easy for DevOps to deploy PaaS in the enterprise, and even easier for that enterprise to start realizing immediate value from Stackato.”

Stackato 2.10 is available in an enterprise edition, a micro cloud edition, as a sandbox trial, or on public clouds like AWS or HPCS.
