Bart has over 32 years in tech spanning roles from VP Corporate Strategy, GM to CEO. He’s had the privilege of leading ActiveState since 2006. Bart drives our strategic direction with three tenets: happy Activators, solutions ‘geeks’ love to use and making open source languages easy for the enterprise. He also helped define and lead the private PaaS market with the ActiveState product, Stackato. Bart subsequently negotiated the successful sale of the Stackato product to HPE in 2015.
Bart is the keeper of the ActiveState culture and the reason why culture is considered our best product. He holds an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from UBC.
Scott Robertson, CTO & VP Engineering
Favorite part of my job: Making things people love to use & making it possible for others to be creative as well.
I got hooked on tech: When I took an Atari apart when I was 4. Still haven’t been able to put it back together again.
I love to also: Cut dovetails, the old timey woodworking way.

Superpower: The ability to misplace anything and find it again when it’s least needed.
Scott is passionate about creating products that solve real problems. He drives ActiveState’s technology vision and has spent over 20 years knees deep in code. His background includes everything from lead dev to CEO to CTO. He’s authored a book, founded 3 startups and sold one of them. Most recently he normalized Fortune 500 BI data and ETL to scale. He understands the pains faced in pushing software into production and the challenges big business has to stay fast and relevant. He helps companies do both.
Angie Hirata, VP Sales & Corporate Development
Favorite part of my job: Helping customers implement the right tools to get their innovation to market & closing deals.
I got hooked on tech: Working with smart people, in a fast & forward-thinking/innovative environment.
I love to also: Travel, ski, play with my kids, hang out with friends, dine out, invest in real estate.

Superpower: Stealth Ninja Moves
Angie brings more than twenty years of experience in the software industry. She has held previous roles in Marketing and Business Development. Her range of skills is part of her secret arsenal in being a ninja when it comes to solving customer needs. Angie was also a pivotal component in building Stackato’s market share, ActiveState’s private PaaS product, and joined HPE in its 2015 acquisition of the Stackato product. Angie re-joined ActiveState in 2017 and is part of the team morphing ActiveState to a SaaS platform for open source languages. Angie earned her B. Comm. at UBC and her successful career includes start-ups to enterprises.
Jeff Rouse, VP Product

I got hooked on tech: With early exposure to computers & the amazing things you could do with them.
I love to also: Spend time w/ my family, tennis, chess, programming, biking, gaming

Fictional Alter Ego: Sherlock Holmes
Jeff is passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship, and building great products. He oversees ActiveState’s product strategy and has spent over 26 years in tech at companies ranging from startups to publicly traded companies and in roles from team lead to Project Manager to VP Development & Services. His experience includes managing the successful integration of two merged companies to replacing a founding CTO and stabilizing and growing a company. Jeff earned his degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary.
Sandra Wear, VP Marketing
Favorite part of my job: Learning, being challenged and achieving results.
I got hooked on tech: By how much I learned, its pace and dreaming up the impossible to make it a reality.
I love to also: Listen to music, read, laugh with friends & family, travel to new places.
Leaders who inspire me: Quite a few like: Andy Grove, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Steve Jobs, Dr. Maria Klawe.

Sandra cut her tech-teeth with SaaS and has never looked back. She's spent over 20 years in tech taking new products to markets. Some of them won awards, others were acquired, all drew the attention of Fortune 500. Sandra loves to understand what companies need & tell the stories that help make technology come alive. She’s held roles in Marketing, CEO, GM, and BD. Sandra has a B.Sci. from UBC & Dipl. Marketing Management from BCIT. She's featured in "Innovation Nation" about successful tech entrepreneurs and Canada 150 Women.
Maria Chu, VP Finance, HR & Admin
Favorite part of my job: Solving challenges, number crunching & creating new ways to make Activators’ life easier.
I got hooked on tech: Seeing first-hand innovation come to life & working with smart, creative people.
I love to also: Spend time with my family & friends, travel, teach kids with learning challenges, volunteer at animal shelters

Maria has over 20 years in senior financial management roles including 15 years in tech. She is accountable for leading the company’s financial management reporting, systems & processes. A savvy independent thinker, she is also our expert generalist as she oversees multiple operational aspects including legal, admin and HR. Maria was integral to the financial and legal aspects of the acquisition of ActiveState’s Stackato product by HPE. She is a data-driven and embraces technology to solve problems resulting in fulsome business insights. Maria’s diversity in thought and practice is one of the greatest strengths she provides ActiveState.
